Lift Table for District Larder
District Larder is a restaurant specializing in house cured meats. Because they produce their product on site, much of their limited dining space is occupied by a large industrial chest freezer. This work was commissioned so that the same space could serve as seating, while maintaining access to the freezer.
The table surface stands on a cantilevered steel base. A rugged hinge mechanism with pulling gas springs and a counterweight allow the large table surface to lift for access to the freezer.
The surface its self is made from oak tabletops reclaimed from the previous restaraunt on site. The dark oak of these is offset by a light strip of figured bird's eye maple that I had been saving for the right project to come along.
