Page Chair
bookmatched walnut, maple, oak, cherry
Cantilevers made possible by joinery, comfort through careful application of ergonomics.
silly silly joinery, too many compound angles, too many facets (my boss swears he has good ideas…)
shape and facets are found through hand sculpting
each blank unique grain structure of each blank must be considered for composition
The Page Chair was made as a gift for my dear friend who generously donated his basement to me as a place to live and work while I established myself in DC. I saw this chair in my mind two or three years before I figured out how to make it real. The original featured a Ginkgo wood seat, from a tree that grew on the street where we lived. To achieve the floating back slats and cantilevered two legged design required most of everything I knew about woodwork and a fair bit of dreaming beyond.
